How Do Families Find Alzheimer’s Home Care in Anderson, SC?

by | Mar 19, 2026 | Home Health Care Service, Alzheimer's / Dementia Care

Watching a loved one navigate the changes that come with Alzheimer’s disease is one of the hardest things a family can go through. The forgetfulness, the confusion, the moments where they seem just out of reach, it takes an emotional toll that words can barely capture. If your loved one needs assistance and you’re searching for a trusted path forward, you’re not alone. At Acti-Kare of Anderson, we understand what families in Anderson, SC, are facing, and we’re here to help.

My name is Martina Ma, and together with my husband Jimmy, we founded Acti-Kare of Anderson after a pivotal family experience showed us firsthand how difficult it can be to find reliable, consistent care. Before entering the in-home care industry, Jimmy and I each spent 10 years in education. That background gave us a deep respect for clear communication, structure, and meeting people where they are, values that shape everything we do at Acti-Kare. We didn’t build this agency from a distance. We built it because we believed families deserved better.

Why Staying Home Makes a Difference

For many older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease, familiarity is everything. Moving a loved one out of their home and into a long-term care facility or assisted living facility can increase anxiety and confusion, especially in the earlier and middle stages of cognitive impairment. The comfort of their own surroundings, their furniture, their routines, their neighborhood, can help them feel calm and safe.

That’s why so many families choose in-home care over nursing homes or other institutional care. When your elderly loved one can age in place, they maintain a sense of independence and dignity that matters deeply to their quality of life.

Here’s what staying at home with professional support can offer:

  • Familiarity: Daily routines and a consistent environment reduce confusion and anxiety.
  • Comfort: Your loved one receives care in a space where they feel safe and settled.
  • Independence: In-home care supports what your loved one can still do, rather than replacing it.
  • Continuity: Consistent caregivers build trust and become a reliable presence in your loved one’s life.

What Our Alzheimer’s Care in Anderson, SC, Looks Like

At Acti-Kare of Anderson, we provide personalized Alzheimer’s care for seniors throughout Oconee County. We know there is no one-size-fits-all approach to dementia and Alzheimer’s care. As the disease progresses, care needs change, and our approach adjusts with them.

Our trained caregivers help with a wide range of daily needs, including:

  • Personal care: Assistance with bathing, dressing, and daily routines that protect dignity.
  • Meal preparation: Cooking nutritional and healthy meals that help your loved one stay healthy.
  • Memory-stimulating activities: Storytelling, photos, games, and creative activities that engage and enrich.
  • Social engagement: Encouraging interaction to support emotional well-being.
  • Companionship: Being a calm, consistent presence that your loved one can communicate with and trust.
  • Mobility support: Helping your loved one move safely and comfortably throughout their home.

Our Acti-Vate program goes beyond basic caregiving. It’s designed to honor your loved one, promote engagement, and provide compassionate care that supports the whole family, not just the individual receiving care.

How We Match Your Family With the Right Caregiver

One of the things families tell us they appreciate most is our thoughtful approach to the caregiver matching process. We don’t just hire qualified caregivers; we take the time to understand your loved one’s personality, preferences, and personal care needs before making a match. Many of our memory care caregivers go on to become long-term, trusted members of the family. Jimmy and I remain actively involved in day-to-day operations, which means you’re not working with a faceless call center. You’re working with owners who are present, responsive, and genuinely invested in your loved one’s well-being. That hands-on approach is something we take seriously.

Support for the Whole Family

We also recognize that family caregivers need support, too. Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease is physically and emotionally demanding. Our in-home care services can provide respite care, giving family members the time to rest, recharge, and take care of themselves, without worry.

Whether you need extra help a few hours a week or are looking for more comprehensive long-term care, we’ll work with you to build a personalized care plan that fits your situation. Every family we serve receives a thoughtful consultation before care begins so that we can get things right from the start. If your loved one’s memory loss is affecting their daily life, now is the time to explore your options. Reaching out doesn’t mean giving up; it means choosing to get your loved one the right support at the right time. We serve families in Anderson, Pickens, Clemson, and throughout Oconee County.

Call us today to schedule your consultation! Your loved one deserves exceptional care, and your family deserves peace of mind.

Jimmy & Martina Ma

Owners

Acti-Kare of Anderson was founded by Martina and Jimmy Ma, a husband-and-wife team whose shared background in education and leadership laid the foundation for a family-run in-home care agency rooted in compassion, consistency, and service—especially for veterans and seniors.

Martina grew up in Ireland and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies and a Master’s degree in TESOL. She spent 10 years as an educator, developing strong skills in communication, organization, and advocacy. Jimmy grew up in Clemson, South Carolina, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Master’s degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction. Like Martina, Jimmy also spent 10 years teaching, bringing structure, problem-solving, and a people-first mindset to the business.

A pivotal family experience changed their career paths and inspired them to enter the in-home care industry. Together, Martina and Jimmy recognized the challenges families—particularly veterans—face when navigating care systems and inconsistent support. Determined to do better, they built Acti-Kare of Anderson with a focus on reliable caregivers, clear communication, and hands-on leadership.

As a family-run agency, Martina and Jimmy remain actively involved in day-to-day operations and community partnerships throughout Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties. Acti-Kare is known for going above and beyond for clients, advocating for veterans, supporting VA renewals, and ensuring care begins smoothly and continues consistently.

Their leadership and community impact have been recognized locally. In 2023, Martina Ma received the Under 40 Leadership Award from the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, reflecting Acti-Kare’s growth, values, and commitment to service.
